Amina Figarova-piano, Marc Mommaas-saxophones
The Nash presents a rare opportunity to hear Amina Figarova and Marc Mommaas perform as a duo. Although he is busy with several high-profile projects of his own, Mommaas is a regular member of the Amina Figarova Sextet. Don’t miss this intimate duo performance as these two stellar musicians take a break from the sextet for an afternoon at The Nash.
Amina Figarova grew up in Azerbaijan, yet somehow developed a passion for American jazz music and musicians. Fast-forward through her studies at the Berklee College of Music and years of touring the world playing jazz clubs, and she is now creating a buzz as one of the most innovative pianists of jazz.
“…A talented pianist, Figarova draws from the moody Gil Evans strain of orchestrated jazz, with a few nods to the rapid rhythms of bebop and the freer dynamics of the post-bop avant-garde…” by Morton Shlabotnik for www.expressmilwaukie.com
Marc Momaass represents the fourth generation of musicians in his family. He has developed a unique, exploratory style on the saxophone that has earned him an international reputation as one of the most creative and inventive players working today.
“A fearless improviser on both tenor and soprano, Mommaas has the ability and sense of spontaneous composition to start from almost nothing and build solos that were alive with energy and commitment, fairly bristling with power” (John Kelman, All About Jazz).
