Discover the jazz of tomorrow! Eighteen-year-old pianist Jasper Zimmerman hails from Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. His musical journey began with an obsession with stride piano music from a hundred years ago. At the age of ten he was playing in jam sessions and performing weekly in New York City with the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra.
Jasper has collected ten awards from DownBeat, including the magazine’s top honor for high school jazz soloists. In 2024 he played at Carnegie Hall and in South Africa with NYO Jazz, a stellar group of young musicians, and was New York’s All-State jazz pianist. In 2025 he performed in London with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and was featured in a Rising Star concert at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
Jasper is in his first year at Princeton University, where he is mentored by Rudresh Mahanthappa. A dynamic performer, his musical interests range from tango to hyperpop. His aim, he says, is to bring the music of the past into the future.
Jasper will lead his group at the Nash in a tribute to two of his favorite composers, Cole Porter and Stevie Wonder.
