About This Event

The 2019-2020 season of JAZZmeetsPOETRY series kicks off in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Let’s learn and celebrate the generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have influenced and enriched our nation and society!

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua) – to October 15, by celebrating the contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America. Mexico, Chile and Belize also celebrate their Independence Days during this period.

The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law Aug. 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100- 402.

Music by Caleb Michel & Trio Los Cubichis

Co-produced by Marche-Pfister Productions and The Nash, the series provides a platform for poets and jazz musicians to make art that is expressive, interactive and captivating.
