About This Event

Sports give us hope. Music gives us empathy. Poetry gives us life…
JAZZmeetsPOETRY returns in the new year to celebrate the power of sports, sound and spoken word, as these align for one night in tribute to local athletes, renditions of favorite  tunes and anthems (like “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” and “Sweet Georgia Brown”) and featuring poetry about “the game” and its competitors and poems by players.
In an essay titled “The American Dream: Sports And Music,” it states: “For the down and out among us, [sports and music] offer a rare chance to leave troubles behind and believe for a time that the world is a good, fair, sometimes disappointing but ultimately hopeful place.”
Get ready to enjoy a collective experience of poetry in motion all for the purpose to inspire us!
OPENING WORDS BY: Alonzo Jones, associate athletic director at Arizona State University.
