This show is the CD release party for a live recording made at The Nash – CDs will be available the night of the performance.

The quartet is made up of a very talented group of musicians with extensive backgrounds in performing, with very different approaches to playing that compliment one another and meld into a unique sound.  The four have been playing together every week for several years, and the is a chemistry created from from that deep familiarity is evident in their soulful, passionate sound.

Saxophonist and composer Brice Winston is a native of Tucson, AZ, instructor at the University of Arizona, resident artist/educator at Northern Arizona University, and an owner of the Tucson Jazz Institute. In the early 2000s, Winston developed a musical relationship with Terence Blanchard – a composer and trumpeter who he has toured with for over 15 years. He has recorded seven albums with Blanchard to date including the Grammy Award winning “A Tale of God’s Will – A Requiem For Katrina.”

Pianist and educator Angelo Versace has been the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Arizona since 2014. Under his direction, the jazz ensembles have performed at various jazz festivals in the Southwest – most notably the Oñate Jazz Festival and the Las Vegas Jazz Invitational. Versace is an in demand performer and clinician, traveling domestically and abroad to present concerts and master classes. His latest work includes a series of lectures and classes at the Fu Jen Catholic University Jazz Camp in Taipei, Taiwan where he is a standing faculty member.

Scott Black graduated from Indiana University with a degree in jazz studies focusing primarily on trumpet performance with bass as a second instrument. He is a founder/owner/teacher at the Tucson Jazz Institute and the author of “Bebop Scales — How to Understand, Practice & Use.” Black has lived in Tucson since 2002 and has had a very busy career as a professional musician.

Pete Swan is a drummer, producer, band leader, and teacher. He has produced concerts in halls and bars featuring The Anderson Brothers, Ali Ryerson, Marcus Printup, Roxy Coss, Mike Eckroth, Emmet Cohen, Greg Abate, and many others. Swan is also the leader and drummer of Big Band Express, featuring some of the top professionals in the Southwest and keeping big band swing alive in the desert. He has performed with a long list of notable artists including: Bud Shank, Bob Florence, Terell Stafford, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and Bill Mays.
