“Warren Wolf/Mayu Saeki duo is a very exciting duo that focuses on classical, jazz and Japanese folk music. Sharing a strong bond with great musicality, finesse, tone and melody, this duo is sure to capture the hearts of listeners”
Japan-born flutist, composer, bandleader, educator Mayu Saeki keeps transforming herself with no limit. Her versatile and passionate playing style is deeply rooted in her early childhood classical training in Japan. Determined to thrive in jazz, she relocated to New York from Tokyo, where the opportunity knocked on her door to be a part of NEA Jazz Master Chico Hamilton’s group, Euphoria. She recorded several albums including “Revelation” and “Euphoric” with the group. Mayu continued to work with Hamilton until his passing in 2013. His last recording, “The Inquiring Mind” (released in 2014 from Joyous Shout! records) featured her composition “Hope.” In 2011, Mayu began actively performing with her own trio, as well as with an all-female Irish music group, Four Celtic Voices that toured from 2015 to 2017; a contemporary jazz group, Arthur Shadowsky & The Troubadours in 2015 to 2016; and a New York based rock band, Cosmos Sunshine’s Butterfly Effect. Mayu’s debut album “HOPE” was released by Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records in February 2018. The album includes original compositions previously recorded with Chico Hamilton’s Euphoria, “Dilemma,” “Do You Know…?,” and “Hope”.
