About This Event

THE REBECCA KILGORE QUARTET featuring HOWARD ALDEN

Rebecca Kilgore-vocals, Howard Alden-guitar, Tom Wakeling-bass, Angelo Versace-piano

“Ms. Kilgore infuses everything she performs with a sense of lighthearted
enjoyment….”
 – the New York Times

Rebecca Kilgore is one of America’s leading song stylists who finds particular delight in preserving and interpreting the music of the Great American Songbook. She regularly performs worldwide at jazz festivals, jazz parties, and on jazz cruises. She has been a frequent guest on National Public Radio’s ‘Fresh Air’ with Terry Gross, has appeared on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’, at Lincoln Center, and with Michael Feinstein at Carnegie Hall. Rebecca has more than 50 recordings to her name and has won numerous prestigious awards for her artistry. As part of her show, Rebecca will pay tribute to the late composer / pianist Dave Frishberg (Schoolhouse Rock – “I’m Just a Bill”; “My Attorney Bernie”) with whom she collaborated and performed for many years.

For this show, Rebecca is joined by virtuoso guitarist Howard Alden. Described as a “Modern Maestro, one of Downbeat Magazine’s 75 great guitarists of all time; an original virtuoso”, Howard tours internationally, performing with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Steve Miller. He was featured on the soundtrack of the Woody Allen movie “Sweet and Lowdown” (he also coached Sean Penn on playing the guitar for his role in the film). Country music legend Vince Gill said after hearing Howard play in Nashville, “I’m meat and potatoes, but he’s the real deal!”

Rebecca will be performing with her long-time musical companion, bassist Tom Wakeling (Portland, OR), and the lyrical, swinging pianist, Angelo Versace (Tucson, AZ).

“Rebecca is simply one of the best interpreters of The Great American Songbook. In a world of pretenders, she’s absolutely the real thing. I love what she does!” – Michael Feinstein
