About This Event

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

The Chicago Tribune awarded pianist/singer Judy Roberts the title “Chicago’s Favorite Jazz Woman;” but she is recognized as a worldwide jazz star thanks to the success of her international recordings and concert performances. Judy is best known for her fun-loving approach to an eclectic and extensive repertoire, her hard-swinging piano playing, her ability to combine lush and sensitive vocals with rapid-fire scat singing, and for her unique ability to communicate with her audience in a relaxed and intimate style. A multiple Grammy nominee, Judy’s twenty-plus recordings include the “The Other World,” whose hit single Señor Blues was number one on the jazz charts and in radio airplay; the album “Trio,” with Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton; the song Twilight World, co-written with piano diva Marian McPartland (on whose NPR show “Piano Jazz” Judy has guested twice); and her international hit rendition of Dave Frishberg’s My Attorney Bernie. Read more about Judy at judyroberts.com.

Fellow Chicagoan and husband Greg Fishman began playing clarinet at the age of 12, tenor saxophone at 13, and by the age of 15 he was working professionally around Chicago. Fishman has performed with The Woody Herman Big Band, The Louie Bellson Big Band, Slide Hampton, Marian McPartland, Conte Candoli, Ira Sullivan, Clark Terry, Don Menza and many more. He has been playing and recording with Judy Roberts since 1995 from Chicago to Singapore, as well as with guitarist/vocalist Paulinho Garcia in Two For Brazil. Fishman has his master’s in Jazz Music Pedagogy from Northwestern University and has authored numerous highly respected jazz books that are ubiquitous among students and educators. Fishman teaches students worldwide via Skype. Greg is also a leading authority on his mentor, Stan Getz, which has an unmistakable influence on his melodic sound. Read about Greg at www.gregfishman.com.
