Mary Petrich-saxophones, Claudia Bloom-piano, Kenji Wagner-bass, Holly Channell-drums The JazzWomenCollective is drawn from among the Valley’s creative jazz players, composers, and arrangers. In this outing they will be performing works by famous as well as lesser-known female composers, including such giants as Mary Lou Williams, Carla Bley, Renee Rosnes, and Roxy Coss.

JAZZ MASTERS’ SERIES The Superstition Jazz Orchestra presents "A Creature of Many Faces: Celebrating the Music of Randy Brecker" On November 16th Phoenix College’s Superstition Jazz Orchestra (SJO) will continue its jazz masters series, presenting the music of Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer, RANDY BRECKER. For more than five decades, Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock—from the funk-fusion of the Brecker Brothers Band to Brecker’s beautiful Brazilian-style tunes. The SJO and its fine soloists promise an electrifying evening of Brecker’s music, featuring special arrangements written by composers Mike Crotty and Nick Cooper.
Randy Napoleon cut his teeth touring with pianist Benny Green, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Michael Bublé, and a thirteen year tenure with Freddy Cole. He has also performed with artists across the jazz spectrum such as Bill Charlap, Natalie Cole, Monty Alexander, Rodney Whitaker and John Pizzarelli. Napoleon has performed or arranged on over seventy records. He arranged as well as performed on Freddy Cole's seven most recent records including the Grammy-nominated releases, Freddy Cole Sings Mr. B and My Mood Is You. This holiday marks the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the island in 1493. Every year, Discovery of Puerto Rico Day is celebrated with fairs, cultural activities, and a grand parade and - at The Nash - The Frank Valdes Septet will be celebrating with a high-energy evening of salsa, bomba, guaracha and all things Puerto Rican!
From the mid-1970s through the early 90s, Francine reigned as the most popular jazz and blues vocalist in the Valley. In fact, she was still winning New Times/Best of Phoenix awards after she moved to Atlanta! Francine appeared with her bands Jazz Alive and Fever at venues such as The Boojum Tree, Chuy’s and Chuy’s Next Door/The Night Club, Churchill’s Pub and Bombay Bicycle Club, plus numerous festivals and concert halls.
