The Superstition Jazz Orchestra presents
“FOOTPRINTS: Celebrating the Music of Wayne Shorter”

Earlier this year, the jazz world lost one of its most creative musicians—saxophonist WAYNE SHORTER. Shorter had been considered one of the preimminent improvisers and composers in jazz for more than six decades, winning 10 Grammy Awards as composer and saxophonist, plus DownBeat’s Annual Critics Poll for 10 consecutive years. Born on August 25, 1933, he came to prominence in the late 1950s as a saxophonist and the primary composer for Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers . In the late 1960s, he joined Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet. Shorter began recording with his own bands in the early 1970s—each project filled with new and inspiring compositions that often pushed the envelope of mainstream jazz. One of these was the jazz fusion group, Weather Report. Many of his compositions have subsequently become jazz standards and have been performed by jazz’s top artists, including Herbie Hancock, Joe Lovano, Stan Getz, Fred Hersch and Freddie Hubbard.
