About the musicians:
ROBERTA GAMBARINI was born in Turin, Italy, where she was exposed to jazz at concerts, clubs, and festivals and at home by listening to records. Within three weeks of moving to America in 1998, Gambarini won a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music and took third place in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Gambarini was invited to sing in New York City, where she met James Moody, who became her teacher and mentor. In 2004, Gambarini started touring with the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band. From 2006–2007 she toured with her own trio, as well as the Hank Jones trio. Gambarini has two Grammy Award-nominated albums.
Based in Denver since 1980, pianist and composer Eric Gunnison has led a distinguished career during which he has not only established himself as one of the mainstays of the Mile High City’s vibrant jazz scene as an instrumentalist, bandleader and educator, but has also attracted a global following performing, touring and recording with internationally renowned jazz artists, particularly jazz vocalists.
Chuck Berghofer, like many other leading musicians on the west coast, Berghofer began playing in the film, television and recording studios. Although most such musicians are doomed to a measure of anonymity, one of Berghofer’s first recording gigs, backing Nancy Sinatra on a session on which she made ‘These Boots Are Made For Walkin’’, gave him a prominent role. He has worked as a studio musician and in the film industry for more than 60 years, including working on more than 400 movie soundtracks.
