The term “Legend” is often misapplied. Not so when it comes to NEA Jazz Master Benny Golson. For nearly 70 years, this tenor saxophonist has performed, composed and arranged, leaving behind a body of work that includes: “Killer Joe”, “I Remember Clifford”, “Along Came Betty”, “Stablemates”, “Whisper Not”, “Blues March”, “Five Spot After Dark”, “Are You  Real?”, and more, many of which are amongst the most played and recorded compositions in contemporary Jazz. Originally inspired by Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas and Lucky Thompson as an instrumentalist, he later absorbed the influences of John Coltrane, Sonny Stitt and Stan Getz to create an extremely personal style, at the same time refined and expressive.
