About This Event

TWO SHOWS: 7:00pm, 9:15pm

The Dexter Gordon Centennial Celebration

Craig Handy – tenor sax, Rickey Woodard – tenor sax, George Cables – piano, Nat Reeves – bass, Lewis Nash – drums

Dexter Gordon was one of the leading bebop tenor saxophonists, with his pure, nearly vibrato-less sound and prodigious ability to improvise. He was a major influence on the tenor saxophonists who came after bebop, especially Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane. Join us at The Nash as another Lewis Nash All-Star band celebrates the centennial of the great Dexter Gordon, with outstanding saxophonists Craig Handy and Rickey Woodard, and the awesome rhythm section featuring Nash-favorite pianist George Cables with bassist Nat Reeves and the incomparable Lewis Nash. This is a “roots of Jazz” show not to be missed.
