The Superstition Jazz Orchestra:
“SIX DECADES OF SILVER The Music of Horace Silver

There are few composers in jazz whose body of music can rival that of pianist HORACE SILVER. From his early years as a sideman in the New York Studios to co-leading the Jazz Messengers with drummer Art Blakey to the decades spent leading his own groups, he helped define the school known as Hard Bop—an intermingling of jazz with gospel and R&B. His groups were often the training ground for legends—from Blue Mitchell and Hank Mobley to Michael Brecker and Tom Harrell.

Scottsdale Community College’s Superstition Jazz Orchestra will be featuring music such as Nutville, Peace, Nica’s Dream, Song for My Father and Sister Sadie in a “fresh look,” with a promise to fill the evening with new rhythms and musical colors, still maintaining the energy and drive that is the centerpiece of Silver’s music.
