Superstition Jazz Orchestra

March 9 @ 7:30 PM

The Superstition Jazz Orchestra presents:
Rosewood: Exploring the Musical Genius of Woody Shaw

WOODY SHAW was without question one of the most influential jazz trumpet players and composers of the 20th century. His recordings and performances from the 1960’s through the1980’s introduced major, innovative approaches to the trumpet, as well as new harmonic language in his compositions.

He recorded with many notable musicians such as Art Blakey, Chick Corea, Horace Silver, Joe Henderson, Deater Gordon, Jackie McLean and many others. However, his dozens of recordings as a leader, which also featured his original compositions, were an example of his true art.

On March 9th the SJO will present a dynamic evening of the music of Woody Shaw, featuring original arrangements by Mike Crotty and Nick Cooper and a unique vocalise provided by special guest vocalist, Deater O’Neill.
