About This Event

TWO SHOWS: 7:00 PM, 9:00 PM

Patrick Langham-alto sax, Rickey Woodard-tenor sax, Gilbert Castellanos-trumpet, Cyrus Chestnut-piano, Peter Washington-bass, Lewis Nash-drums
The all-star musicians assembled for the Nov 2nd re-opening and anniversary show at The Nash were all handpicked by Lewis, and he has both a longstanding friendship and musical relationship with each of them.
Bassist Peter Washington was, along with Nash, a member of the NYC based Tommy Flanagan trio for many years. This bass and drums “dynamic duo” has also been on numerous gigs, tours and recordings together over the past 40 years.
The exciting pianist Cyrus Chestnut has led his own trio and been a recording artist for several decades now. Nash is featured on his 2001 recording Soul Food. Both Washington and Nash played on his 2022 recording My Father’s Hands.
The three horn players are all based in California, and Nash’s interactions with them have largely been in California and on the west coast. Saxophonist Rickey Woodard and trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, based in Los Angeles and San Diego respectively, are fantastic players, bandleaders and educators. Both are also members of the LA based Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
Alto saxophonist Patrick Langham rounds out the all-stars. A soulful player whom Nash first encountered in Knoxville, TN, Langham is a professor and Director of Jazz Studies at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Langham also directs UOP’s Pacific Jazz Ambassadors program (formerly The Brubeck Institute). It’s going to be a fun & festive gathering in the desert with roots on both coasts!
