Celebrate Bastille Day and be transported to Paris with Constance Genter and ZAZU West and Friends. Constance Genter is a vocalist originally from Montreal, Canada and as a native French speaker has an affinity for “jazz manouche,” also known as gypsy jazz or French Swing. She has been active in the Phoenix jazz and music scene since moving from the Washington DC area in 2016. Her musical aptitude was evident from early childhood and culminated in her studying voice at The Boston Conservatory of Music. She has many live shows to her credit and is especially proud to have been selected to sing the National Anthem at Boston’s storied Fenway Park for a Red Sox / Yankee game.
ZAZU West is Phoenix’s premier ensemble dedicated to Gypsy Jazz, the style devoted to the legacy of the influential jazz guitar legend. Gypsy Jazz, Jazz Manouche, French Swing. Whatever it’s called, the sound is infectious, swinging, and unmistakably Django. Whether playing unique Django compositions, traditional and contemporary jazz standards in the Gypsy Jazz style, or the music of today’s Gypsy Jazz greats in Europe and the U.S., ZAZU West creates a one-of-a-kind performance experience full of irresistible swing, melancholy dark and moody highlights, and improvisation with reckless abandon.
