Backed by The Mercuries, emcee Pariah Pete and pianist Carly Bates join forces for one night only.  Featuring original works from Pariah Pete & the Mercuries and Carly Bates, this program blends jazz and hip hop to celebrate these two distinct but interconnected Black American art forms.

Carly Bates is a pianist, educator, and artistic collaborator from Phoenix, creating with all kinds of storytellers such as musicians, movers, poets, and theatre artists. She has a background in classical, jazz, and popular styles of piano, a multi-threaded music lineage which she shares with those eager to learn. Currently, alongside her teaching practice, Carly plays with local acts Pariah Pete and The Mercuries, Raquel Denis, and at a local theatre company, Playback Arizona.

Pariah Pete is a confessional jazz-rap artist from Phoenix, Arizona. His musical career began at a young age with the influential hip hop collective 20 Pounds. After the group disbanded, Pete began a prolific solo career that includes lauded recording projects, sold out headlining shows at Crescent Ballroom, and opening slots for artists like Doja Cat, Earthgang, and Smino. In his latest artistic iteration, Pete has been performing and writing with his band, The Mercuries: a collaboration that has pushed his music to new heights.
