About This Event
An Afternoon In Old Havana at The Nash!
Josiel Perez-trumpet, Yuniel Moya Toca-guitar/vocals, Ariel Cacheiro Lopez-tres, Luis Gustavo Grandales-percussion, special guest Irene Rhodes-vocals
In the 1930s, the well-known early Jazz trumpet player Louis Armstrong recorded a son montuno based on a Cuban street vendor called the “Peanut Vendor” by Moisés Simons. “The Peanut Vendor” is a Cuban son-pregón. The son montuno is the most important genre of Cuban popular music. If you ever visited Old Havana, Cuba, you will find energetic and vibrant groups playing son montuno. “An Afternoon in Old Havana” at The Nash will be a perfect combination of son montuno and Latin Jazz. Ariel Cacheiro Lopez will be playing the Tres instrument which is a guitar-like three-course chordophone of Cuban origin. Also, on the guitar and lead vocal Yuniel Moya Toca, and Luis Gustavo Grandales on Cuban percussion.
Born in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba on October 9, 1986, Josiel Perez comes from an extensive musical family, beginning with his grandfather who is a refined flautist to his uncle, Andres Perez, who is considered one of Cuba’s best baritone saxophonists.
