Rescheduled from Feb. 23rd Black History Month Event: The Music of Justice Panel Discussion and Performance The Music of Justice was first presented virtually in 2021 during the pandemic by The Nash in collaboration with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and ASU Center for Race and Democracy, and funding from Arizona Humanities. The experiences and expertise of the panelists, and the skill of the moderator resulted in a uniquely informed and vibrant discussion on which this event will build.

Sandra celebrates Women's Month by singing songs made famous by Influential Jazz Vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vaughan, Dianne Reeves and more.  These women helped to shape jazz from its inception. Understanding that she stands on the shoulders of those who have paved a way for women in Jazz, Sandra, along with Beth Lederman on keys, embraces this history and seeks to remind us all that women have been and will always be an instrumental and key part of Jazz; yesterday, today and forevermore... From the mid-1970s through the early 90s, Francine reigned as the most popular jazz and blues vocalist in the Valley.  In fact, she was still winning New Times/Best of Phoenix awards  after she moved to Atlanta!  Francine appeared with her bands Jazz Alive and Fever at venues such as The Boojum Tree, Chuy’s and Chuy’s Next Door/The Night Club, Churchill’s Pub and Bombay Bicycle Club, plus numerous festivals and concert halls. An evening of jazz with the Phoenix College Combos and Big Band, under the direction of Mary Petrich.    

Rebecca De La Torre-vocals/piano/cuatro, Mahlon Hawk-bass/vocals, Josiel Perez-trumpet, Leslie Pozo-trombone, Joe Goglia-drums, Travis Rowland-percussion Vocalist, pianist, and cuatrista Rebecca De La Torre and her Latin/Americana/World band Bohemian Insurgence, return to The Nash March 10th. The night promises to feature fresh new latin-influenced interpretations of several jazz standards, as well as several Cuban & Argentinian classics translated poetically into English by Rebecca herself. Brice Winston-sax, Angelo Versace-piano, Will Goble-bass, Dave Potter-drums This new project features Jazz-flavored arrangements of modern classics from Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Peter Gabriel, Prince, The Doobie Brothers, etc. “A native of North Carolina, Dave began playing drum set in high school and starting performing with his elders in the RDU area at the age of 16. In honor of National Women's History month,  We3 & Sheila Earley perform their "I'm A Woman" concert. Celebrating music inspired by women, along with music made popular by female artists and composers.  We3 performed their very first concert together on October 1, 2016, at the Nash in downtown Phoenix. An undeniable chemistry was recognized, and the group continued to perform sold out shows at the MIM and Phoenix Theatre along with recording their first full length CD, “We’ll Meet Again”.

Holly Channell-drums, Mary Petrich-sax, Claudia Bloom-piano, Ben Hedquist-bass Recently named a 2023 Sister in Jazz by the Jazz Education Network, drummer Holly Channell pays tribute to Academy Award winning song-writer Dorothy Fields who co-wrote over 200 jazz standards that we know and love today! Some of her repertoire includes Sunny Side of the Street, The Way You Look Tonight and I Can't Give You Anything But Love.
